When will I be happy?
Much of our lives are spent striving to achieve goals that we believe will make us happy. Most, if not all of us, have been conditioned from a very young age to believe that happiness is dependent on achieving goals. And so we wait…
We wait for the joys of life to happen when we finally land our dream job
We wait for happiness to wash over us at the success of that first big deal
We wait for that sweet feeling of satisfaction when we buy that luxury car
We wait for contentment to arrive when we move in to our dream house
And perhaps for a short moment in time we find some pleasure in achieving a life-long dream or goal, but these soon fade away and it is not long before we start planning and deciding that we will be even happier when we have climbed the next rung of the corporate ladder or the next model of that luxury dream car.
Does this sounds familiar?
The funny thing is though, the consistent, continuous feeling of happiness never seems to arrive, or does not stay around long enough to be truly enjoyed. Why is that?
The secret truth that I have found is that happiness is not dependent on any external goal. It is reliant on a state of mind in which we decide that we are truly content IN our lives and with our lives right now, at this very present moment.
Now, Now, NOW…is the time to be happy.
Take a deep breath, close your eyes, say a thank you and open your heart to the realisation that each moment is perfect in itself.
You are exactly where you should be, doing what you need to be doing and all is well.
Simply choose to be happy now.
